Every year when the Oscars role around I try my best to try and see every film nominated. One of my favourite categories to sift through is the international feature film category since it often forces me to expose myself to films I might not otherwise have seen and I typically find a few which I really enjoy and RRR is one of them. This film portrays a fantastical alternate history of two Indian revolutionaries and their struggle against British rule in India. Prior to viewing this film the three hour run time gave me pause as I worried the extended run time may prove excruciating if I did not enjoy the film, but luckily I did and I expect many people will too if they are willing to give their time to experience this epic motion picture. The grand scale of this film both in terms of the action, music and set design are mostly unparalleled in comparison to other contemporary films that I have seen including the Marvel cinematic universe and other such action films. That is not to say that this is strictly an action movie as there is larger story here behind how our two main characters come together, in the cruel world the film depicts, to form one of the best onscreen bromances in recent cinematic history. Furthermore, while many have spoken to the amazing dance numbers and extraordinary action sequences it should be noted that this movie does not pull its punches in terms of the gore shown onscreen including one such sequence where a character is tortured and his perseverance is expressed through song. While great music, cinematography and special effects help build the foundations for a great film it is only fully realized through the great performances put forward here by our two leads N.T. Rama Rao Jr as Komaram Bheem and Ram Charan Teja as Alluri Sitarama Raju who should be getting more awards recognition than they are currently for their amazing work. I cannot recommend this movie enough, though it deals with a heavy subject matter, it is still one of the more enjoyable movies out there and it should leave audiences with a smile on their face. I give this film a 9/10.
Just in case you are still unsure whether or not you should see this film I have included a clip here to show you a sample of what you will experience if you give this film a try.
